I-Ching

I-Ching

Thousands of years ago, rulers in ancient China would consult the I-Ching for council, much like ancient Greeks consulted the Oracle at Delphi. Around the third century, a young scholar by the name of Wang Pi, realized that the real value in the I-Ching would be found as a tool for self-discovery. By developing a little personal understanding of the imagery and words used in the I-Ching, it is possible to advance your inner understanding.

The I-Ching, the most ancient classic Chinese text, presents a system of images that identify an order to what seem like chance events. This ancient system forms a core of Chinese cultural beliefs. The philosophy of the I-Ching images center on the view that we live in a dynamic play of balancing opposites. Yang energy, represented by an unbroken line, is an initiating masculine energy; yin, represented by a broken line, is a receptive feminine energy.

The I-Ching images are represented by 64 Hexagrams of six lines each; these Hexagrams each convey an energetic image that communicates wisdom passed through the ages. Each of the 64 I-Ching Hexagrams is made up of two Trigrams. There are eight possible Trigram combinations that make up each of the 64 Hexagrams. Each of the eight Trigrams of the I-Ching represents a visual image. Simply Your Self™ color-codes these I-Ching Trigrams according to Astrological Sign.
